How does a Firmware-Update work?

Answer

  • We recommend that you use our free Spectre-Application (available for Mac and PC). You can download it here: http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/downloads/536-spectre.html
  • First, switch off your Blofeld with the mains switch.
  • Connect the Blofeld directly to a free USB port on your computer with an appropriate cable. Do not use a USB-Hub!
  • Switch on your Blofeld and wait until your operating system (Windows XP/VISTA/Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.4 or later) automatically recognizes the Synthesizer as an „Audiodevice“.
  • Start the Spectre-Application. With it you can check if your operating system has recognized the Blofeld correctly. Klick on the Audio/MIDI-button. Under the MIDI outputs the Blofeld should be listed as an available output. If that is not the case please check the previous steps again.
  • In Spectre, click on the upgrade button and find the Blofelds Firmware-MIDI-File. Confirm with OK to start the download.
  • You can download the latest Firmware version for free here: http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/downloads-blofeld/537-system.html
  • The Blofeld shows a graphic that indicates that a firmware is being loaded. Additionally the MIDI input LED is illuminated. Under no circumstances turn off or disconnect the Blofeld during this operation.
  • After approximately 2 minutes the firmware has downloaded.
  • Now press the Blofelds PLAY button to finish the operation.
  • Now you can use the new firmware.
  • At the next reboot you can see the version of the currently installed firmware at the bottom of the screen. Then the serial number and the OS-version number are displayed. It should look something like: V1.15-1
Note: If you use a media player like the Windows Media Player make sure that the “loop”-feature or the automatic repeat feature are turned off during the update.
